In a world that often tears boys down, the California State Militia is building them up.
At Lumber Jack Camp 2026 — pioneered and run by the California State Militia 1st Battalion, 1st Regiment (Cottonwood Militia) — young men learn what it means to be protectors, providers, and leaders.
Through the core values of God, Family, and Country, the boys are taught real skills and character:
- Axe throwing & archery
- Flint-and-steel fire starting
- Teamwork and ownership of mistakes
- How to express themselves with confidence and respect
- Job skills and outdoor preparedness
As Commander Dan Scoville, Captain Justin “Doc” Cork, and other leaders share in this video, the goal is simple: reassure every boy that God created him on purpose, that he is valuable, and that he is not a mistake.
They arrive as individual boys.
They leave stronger, more confident, and ready for the future — with great stories and lifelong lessons.
