| * Ukraine/ Russia: Kiev was hit 3 times in the last 24 hours by Russia. Moscow was hit overnight by Ukrainian drone strikes. Russia is reporting light casualties and saying the drone strikes hit an apartment block. * Mexico: The Mexican government is continuing a campaign against U.S Immigration laws by sending Mexican Sec of State Marcelo Ebrard to Florida to work against Florida Governor DeSantis. Though Ebard denied he was attempting to influence U.S. elections, he stated “If you allow the first domino to fall, then the 24 states governed by Republicans will follow, and then it [immigration laws] will be the subject of the campaign.” * China: The PRC has declined a meeting with Defense Secretary Austin. |   |

  | * Debt Ceiling: [UPDATE] Treasury Secretary Yellen has now said that Treasury has enough money to pay government debt until June 5th. House Speaker McCarthy and President Biden announced they reached a bipartisan agreement that will suspend the debt ceiling until 1/1/25. The vote to approve the bill is scheduled for May 31st however, the Rules Committee is scheduled to take up the bill today and a floor vote could be delayed if the committee decides that lawmakers can propose amendments to the final bill. [END UPDATE] Negotiations are still at a standstill. Many analysts are stating that the closer it gets to the “x-date” the more economic damage the United States will face, even if a deal is made. Negotiations came to a standstill over the weekend with Republican and Democrat negotiators being unable to find common ground on spending cuts and work requirements for entitlement programs. Treasury Secretary Yellen has stated that the June 1st “x-date” is the deadline for raising the debt ceiling. * Russia: The Interior Ministry of Russia issued an arrest warrant for U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham after a video was released of comments the Senator made during a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky on Friday. The editing of the video in Zelensky’s put two quotes from the Senator much closer together than they had been in reality. Graham noted that “the Russians are dying” and the second comment was him saying that the military assistance being given to Ukraine was “the best money we have ever spent.” Graham claimed the arrest warrant was a badge of honor and offered this challenge to Russia: “Here’s an offer to my Russian ‘friends’ who want to arrest and try me for calling out the Putin regime as being war criminals: I will submit to jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court if you do,” “Come and make your best case. See you in The Hague!” |
