| * Bakhmut, Ukraine: That battle still rages, but The Russian Wagner Group is declaring that it holds the city and will turn control over to the Russian Army by June 1st. Ukraine states that it still has pockets of resistance in the city and stronghold positions on the western edge of the city while still pushing and making advances into parts of the city. Satellite imagery also shows extensive defensive fortifications being established to protect against an Offensive that may try to take back occupied territories of southern and eastern Ukraine or even Crimea. The town of Tokmak is considered one area the offensive could move through. The satellite imagery shows rows of dragon’s teeth, anti-vehicle trenches, defensive trench lines with bunkers, and dug-in artillery positions that have been constructed. |  |

   | * Debt Ceiling: Negotiations came to a standstill over the weekend with Republican and Democrat negotiators being unable to find common ground on spending cuts and work requirements for entitlement programs. Treasury Secretary Yellen has stated that the June 1st “x-date” is the deadline for raising the debt ceiling. * Satellite phones were offered to all 100 senators and at least 50 have accepted. They are being issued as new security measures offered by the Senate Sergeant at Arms, Karen Gibson. In testimony, she stated that the communication devices were being deployed “to ensure a redundant and secure means of communication during a disruptive event.” Administrators for the senators have also been offered “stop the bleed” training. Additional programs are being offered and members of Congress are accepting, to harden their homes and create better security for homes and offices. * U.S. Wheat: The USDA is reporting that 33% of winter wheat acreage nationwide won’t be harvested this year and that number is expected to increase. This combined with falling worldwide wheat prices is greatly hurting the American farmer. The cause is mostly due to drought and a colder-than-usual spring. |
