* The Bay area has nearly doubled the freeway shootings in Los Angelos in 2022. 154 in the Bay and 77 in LA. Freeway shootings have gone up in 9 Bay Area counties since 2021. The CHP arrest rate for these attacks is about 10 -20%.

* Activists are claiming that the only fair way to deal with the sins of slavery is to pay 1.8 million Black Californians $360,000 each. The state is expected to face a budget deficit of $22.5 billion this coming fiscal year.

* Ukraine: The battle for Bakhmut continues with both sides claiming they have inflicted significant casualties on the other. Though not a highly strategic area, the Russian forces are looking for a bright spot of success and the Ukrainians have noted that the longer they hold the Russian Offensive there, the longer before a larger Offensive can have success.

* China negotiated a peace deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran, without involving the United States. The deal apparently came as a complete surprise to the Biden Administration. China now appears to be talking with President Zelensky of Ukraine as well as President Putin of Russia. The appearance is that China’s Xi influence and power is rising above the current sitting US President.

* Bank Failures: President Biden gave a speech this morning attempting to give confidence to Americans that the Banking system was sound. This after a second bank, New York-based Signature Bank also failed over the weekend. The President said he would seek to hold those responsible and he also promised no losses would be paid by the taxpayers.

Thoughts for the day
“Human nature is full of riddles and contradictions; its very complexity engenders art—and by art I mean the search for something more than simple linear formulations, flat solutions, oversimplified explanations. One of these riddles is: how is it that people who have been crushed by the sheer weight of slavery and cast to the bottom of the pit can nevertheless find strength to rise up and free themselves, first in spirit and then in body; while those who soar unhampered over the peaks of freedom suddenly appear to lose the taste for freedom, lose the will to defend it, and, hopelessly confused and lost, almost begin to crave slavery. Or again: why is it that societies which have been benumbed for half a century by lies they have been forced to swallow find within themselves a certain lucidity of heart and soul which enables them to see things in their true perspective and to perceive the real meaning of events; whereas societies with access to every kind of information suddenly plunge into lethargy, into a kind of mass blindness, a kind of voluntary self deception.” ― Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Warning to the West
Advisory
– Fire Watch

-Warnings/ Advisories (NOAA)
*  While there is a slight break in the rain in many parts of California today, there are flood watches covering significant amounts of the state.

WarningA warning is issued when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, imminent or likely. A warning means weather conditions pose a threat to life or property. People in the path of the storm need to take protective action.

Advisory: An advisory is issued when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, imminent or likely. Advisories are for less serious conditions than warnings, that cause significant inconvenience and if caution is not exercised, could lead to situations that may threaten life or property.

Watch: A watch is used when the risk of a hazardous weather or hydrologic event has increased significantly, but its occurrence, location or timing is still uncertain. It is intended to provide enough lead time so those who need to set their plans in motion can do so. A watch means that hazardous weather is possible. People should have a plan of action in case a storm threatens and they should listen for later information and possible warnings, especially when planning travel or outdoor activities.
