  | * China: French President Macron and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen are in China meeting with Chinese President Xi. The meetings range from improving trade relations to encouraging China to bring Russia and Ukraine back to the negotiating table. – China/USA relations are also decidedly chilled. China has refused most communications since Biden ordered the Chinese spy balloon shot down. China is also using the meeting of House Speaker McCarthy and Taiwanese President Tsai as an additional reason that the United States is undermining Chinese sovereignty. McCarthy went on after that meeting to urge Congress to speed up weapons delivery to Taiwan to help the island nation improve its defenses. * Bakhmut, Ukraine: The Wagner Group says its offensive has stalled and it needs more ammunition, better support from the Russian military, and protection of its flanks before it can resume. Interestingly, the Wagner group also said that the Ukrainians are defending well. * Philippine Islands (PI): The United States and PI agreed this week to allow the U.S. military to establish 4 bases in the PI. Three of the bases will be on islands closest to Taiwan. Further upcoming meetings are expected to cover bilateral energy, trade, and regional security cooperations. |

| * Social Security and Medicare: The Social Security Administration is reporting that money will dry up and the ability to provide full benefits are unlikely. They project that Medicare will run out in 2031 and Social Security in 2033. Either cuts or large tax changes will need to happen, otherwise, there is the possibility of limited or no benefits for future generations. (Can I get a refund now?) |  |
